Where cool stuff hides (& my new favourite place)

By foot: On the left hand side of King St when heading up from the cinemas. Just before Missenden Rd.
By public transport: Newtown Station is 3 stops from Central Station, where Newtown trains depart from Platform 19. Follow the scent of magazines from there.
Astral projection: lots of concentration, deep breathing and a copy of Robert A. Monroe's classic "Journeys Out of the Body".
Sydney – Newtown - 155 King St.

Postcards you could send to me
That would make me laugh and smile and other 'nice' things: a beautiful revolution

I love a good bit of social capital. The kind of things that prove we're not all soulless, selfish greedy buggers who want it all for nothing. Things just like this:
Glen’s Espresso (82 Ann Street, Brisbane)

It makes me want to go to Brisbane just so I can indulge in some fair trade, organic caffeinated goodness, then sit in the sun, sipping away, feeling all smug about the world.

should I like this?
Concerned these designs appeal to me so much because I've spent too much time in certain places of the world, but I like.

secrets of your city
Unlocking the secrets of your own city is the aim of
52 Suburbs and I love the idea. Sydney has never looked so snappable!

Off the beaten path
I’m the first to admit I’ve been in a bit of a professional writing rut this week. I’m supposed to be writing a comprehensive coverage on the women’s empowerment activities of my program. This excites me, or at least it should, for a few reasons.
1 – I’m mildly obsessed about women’s empowerment at the moment
2 – I’ve done all the field work and met a stack of women who have provided me with more content I could possibly use
3 – it’s going to get used organisation wide, and potentially even internationally if it’s up to scratch
Which is where I’ve come undone I think. I really want to do a good job on this, and know all the pieces are there in front of me, but it’s scaring me just a teensy bit.
Then I came across this great art exhibition on Violence Against Women

via jezebel
and have since spent all day doing what I should have been doing all week, which is to say, writing. Vowing to spend the rest of the week being disciplined.
Wish me luck!

We Feel Fine
I have long held the belief that by sharing the shitty things that happen to us, or the shitty things we do, or the shitty things we feel, it makes it easier to cope when things aren’t going so well. Conversely, when the world is looking it’s brightest, it’s worth shouting it out to someone, anyone, everyone.
Sometimes it’s impossible to feel like there is anyone else out there who knows, understands, cares, is listening, wants to know, or can help.
One of the things I love most about the Internet, though, is projects like Post Secret and We Feel Fine, which turn all those things on the inside into wonderful little bite sized pieces of ‘me too!’
I really like this one, and this one, and, well, too many to keep linking them.
Yet another example of how the web brings people together and allows for personal expression on a level never experienced before. Love it.

My Humps
As someone who finds the experience of watching most MTV music videos akin to being forced to lick my filthy bangladesh feet clean I found great pleasure in watching this youtube gem:
