"The public sphere today tolerates a level of anti-Muslim bigotry comparable to that directed against Jews in English-speaking countries during the 1930s."
Jeff Sparrow, The New Fascism Hates Muslims in New Matilda

I agree, and this general tolerance is worrying. By creating a public sphere that accepts such dangerous bigotry, we legitimise "anti" sentiment that, while maybe not leading to a repeat of the Holocaust, makes it okay to push people from one religion (or race) to the peripheries. Jobs, media space, housing, schools etc are all forums where it becomes de riguer to exclude.

Where this exclusion will lead us is just as worrying as the fact that it is sanctioned in the first place.

Surely we can do better.
